Bio:

Jay L. Clendenin, a journalism graduate of San Jose State University, started his career on the East Coast with stintsin Hartford, New York City and Washington, D.C., where he worked primarily as a photojournalist, covering UConn women’s basketball, NYC news and politics at the White House. Leaving D.C. for L.A., Jay was a staff photographer at the Los Angeles Times for over 16 years covering Hollywood, with a focus on portraiture. Since leaving the Times in 2024, Jay has continued to work in the entertainment industry, as well as with major corporate and advertising clients.

 

Statement:

Jay and Jamie (bearing the same JLC initials) finally met at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019 and became cosmically connected, with Jay photographing her multiple times over the year-long run of what would become her first Oscar-winning performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”  Jay and Jamie collaborated on their “morning after” image with her Oscar, playing off the 1977 photo of actress Faye Dunaway, posing in a very similar spot at the Beverly Hills hotel, the morning after her Best Actress win for “Network,” photographed by Terry O’Neil.
