Artist Statement:

I have been interested in photographing dancers for some time and, in fact, was on the board of a local dance company. As part of that I did some photography for them, however, I began looking for ways of representing the movement within the art form. In the summer of 2022 I acquired flash units that had a stroboscopic mode and began experimenting with how I might use that. This resulted in photographs that showed the subjects’ motion without them being displayed as a single still or blurred. The six individual images in each photograph are made in camera with only level adjustments and cropping after.
