Bio:
I am a New York-based photographer and travel writer specializing in large format and environmental portraiture. I am currently shooting Strangers in the Park, a series of large format, black and white portraits of total strangers. I spent many years documenting ethnic minorities throughout SE Asia and China. Since 2006 I have regularly exhibited my work with solo shows at Hong Kong’s Fringe Club and multiple shows at Soho Photo Gallery in NYC. My first book, Off the Beaten Path, was published in 2023, while my second book, Fragments, was published in 2024.
Statement:
Throughout my photographic career, I have always used my camera as a tool to learn about different cultures and lifestyles. Portraiture provides me with the opportunity to meet and get to know all kinds of people that I would normally never encounter. While the end product is hopefully an image that conveys the character of my subject, the journey of taking the picture is for me the path to humanistic appreciation.
