Artist Statement

In January of 2010 western Tennessee, where I was living at the time, experienced a record breaking ice storm. Everything was covered. Everything still. Quiet. My father, who had introduced me to photography, was downstairs recovering from surgery and would not have been able to go outside to see the beauty with his own eyes so I took my camera and went outside to take pictures for him. This was the best one and I knew he would love it.  I hold on to that thought every time I look at it. Sadly, he did not get to see it.

 

Upon seeing a big print of this image, a dear friend commented that she could not stop looking into it. She could feel that something had happened here but could not understand why. Other people often stopped in front of it when it was exhibited, looking deeply . That warms my heart and this line from an entirely different context comes to my mind:

 

Bio

Carolyn Hollingsworth lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia. Photography has been a lifelong passion but she also enjoys working in various other media. She holds BFA and MFA degrees from Georgia State University where she made a valiant effort to study everything on offer in the art department.
