Bio:
My name is Scarlett Freund, and I’m a portrait and street photographer based in Los Angeles, CA. Though born in NYC, I grew up in São Paulo, Brazil, and that experience taught me to be at home everywhere and nowhere.
As a photographer, I am drawn to the human figure as it navigates the contours and complexities of modern life. Through my lens, I look for moments in which life seems to stand still, the next instant hanging in the balance, about to unfold.
What I love about street photography is its unpredictability, its power for storytelling, for connecting people… and how with every shot there is the potential to make the world anew.
Ultimately, I see photography as a utopian practice. I hope my images invite viewers to step into narratives other than their own.
My work has been featured in group exhibitions in CA, NY, Paris, Venice, Milan, Rome, and São Paulo.
