Cindy Konits’ practice is lens based, exploring family history and identity in the context of evolving technologies. Her monograph “This Room Will Survive Me: Architecture and Interiority” (Schilt Publishing) launched May 2026 with traveling solo exhibition at FotoFest Biennial, Houston TX. Konits won first and second prize The Photo Review Competition 2021 and 2022, numerous Julia Cameron and Pollux awards, and exhibited at Foley Gallery, NYC. Konits’ “The Way I See It” screened in 19 film festivals worldwide nominated as Best Documentary Short. Interactive work on CD-ROM “The I for Pleasure” was curated for exhibition at The Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore, and censored days before opening. In response Konits created “The Veil of Intent” video. Her first photography projects became solo exhibitions “The Best Woman for the Job” and “Now I See Kiev in My Dreams” funded by NEA and NEH grants respectively. Konits’ work is held in private and public collections.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Architecture is more than what we see. It shapes how we move, remember and relate to one another. These images explore emotional and psychological experience of inhabited spaces, both built and natural. Experimental processes employed with an obsolete instant camera, expired film and manipulated photochemistry depict a figure merging with rooms, dissolving into light, and absorbed by the landscape for the viewer to consider memory embedded in place, and place, in turn, shaping memory. Constructed and natural architectural spaces are active participants in the shaping of human identity.
