Lynne Buchanan, a former Florida resident, is a photographer and writer based in Asheville, North Carolina.  Her work is focused on raising awareness about changing ecologies due to human impact and climate change.  Her passion for water began as a child growing up in Sarasota, where she frequented the beaches and swam and boated in Sarasota Bay. The waterways of her youth were teeming with life and seemed to possess the magical properties of Ponce De Leon’s Fountain of Youth that she learned about in school.  After a 22-year hiatus during which she lived, worked and raised a family in the northeast, she returned to Florida and discovered that the waterways she remembered had been altered and were suffering.  With a camera as her tool, she recorded these changes and her emotional response to the depredation and the fragile beauty still remaining in many areas. A large body of this work was exhibited in a solo exhibition at the South Florida Museum in 2016, followed by a book entitled Florida’s Changing Waters: a Beautiful World in Peril, published George Thompson in 2019. Since moving to North Carolina, Lynne has been working on the impact of climate change on trees and waterways, as well as documenting biodiversity.  Her current focus is making platinum palladium prints from digital negatives to record precious environmental areas at risk of destruction.
