As a self-taught photographer based in Charlottesville VA, Benita focuses her practice on portrait and documentary photography, all of which captures her desire to bear witness capturing the essence, dignity and authenticity of each person and their story.

Benita’s work has been recognized internationally and held in private collections.  She was a 2021Fellow-in-Residence at the University of Virginia Equity Center creating a photo essay highlighting the pregnancy risks that Black women face in the US and the positive benefits of doula support. This work was featured in Virginia Quarterly Review.  She is currently working on a project focused on Womanhood  – an Exploration of Midlife & Menopause.
