Brief Bio:
Ginger Goekjian is an untrained photographer who took her first photos at the age of 55 at the encouragement of her husband, Karekin, himself a photographer. She was born in 1954 in South Carolina and worked for over thirty years in science at the University of Georgia to help support the family. When Karekin put a camera in her hands he opened a whole new world for her, one that she continues to explore with curiosity, love and delight. She and Karekin currently live on Sapelo Island, Georgia.
Statement:
The first photograph Hope was taken on Sapelo Island, GA., where I live. I often grab my camera and go for a walk or bike ride just to be outside and enjoy the spiritual connection I feel through nature. Sometimes I am gifted with visual surprises, especially when I have no expectations. I saw this heron high up in a tree holding a small branch in its beak. It was early morning and the sky had an unusual yellowish glow. It felt so peaceful and hopeful since I imagined the bird was in the process of building a nest and starting a family, bringing new life into the world.
