Statement:
In my early work as a young artist trained in the art of street photography, I followed the tradition of photographers such as Lee Friedlander and Henry Cartier Bresson. Wherever I went, I had my Leica loaded with Tri-x film, strap wrapped around my wrist, with my finger on the shutter. I created a body of images shot on the street corners, in cafes, on subways and buses and in corner stores in the neighborhoods of Boston, New York, New Orleans and other cities. I traveled to Nicaragua and made images while I picked cotton alongside the field workers, captured women cooking, doing laundry and people on the streets. Later, as my friends raised families, I turned my camera to the joys and struggles of parenting.
