BIO:

I have been drawn to photography since childhood, when I carried a little Brownie camera to capture family, friends, and neighborhood scenes. With my first real camera in 1980, my commitment deepened—photographing parties in college, documenting every journey, and studying the craft through various classes, including at the International Center of Photography, where I later served as a teaching assistant in a Photoshop course.

In 2015, I became singularly focused on sharing my work, leading to solo exhibitions in Havana and Brooklyn. The onset of Covid, and, most recently, a move and house renovation, waylaid that momentum. In time I found myself exploring other creative paths before returning to the medium that feels most like home. I am back—renewed, grounded, and content in the practice of photography.

STATEMENT:

As is true in many countries, undomesticated dogs run free in much of Cuba. The little dog in this image is so notably homely, that a child, undoubtedly accustomed to seeing dogs roaming the street, pointed out this imperious pup with enthusiasm! Mira!
