Brief Bio:
Ginger Goekjian is an untrained photographer who took her first photos at the age of 55 at the encouragement of her husband, Karekin, himself a photographer. She was born in 1954 in South Carolina and worked for over thirty years in science at the University of Georgia to help support the family. When Karekin put a camera in her hands he opened a whole new world for her, one that she continues to explore with curiosity, love and delight. She and Karekin currently live on Sapelo Island, Georgia.
Statement:
The second image Serenity was taken between Sapelo Island and the mainland ferry dock at Meridian, GA. Sapelo is accessible only by boat and I use the ferry to go to town to shop and visit friends. I was on one of the afternoon ferries when I saw this simple composition of a small island of golden marsh grass surrounded by blue water under a cloudless blue sky. The water was particularly calm as it often is between tides. It gave me a peaceful feeling because of the simplicity and calm. It brings to me the idea that there is a calm between the ebb and flow of our lives if only I can pause and be in the moment. I am glad I had my camera with me.
